About Bettys & Taylors of Harrogate
For 100 years, Yorkshire has been enjoying the combination of mouth-watering Swiss confectionery and local hospitality delivered by Bettys. The first Bettys Café Tea Room opened in 1919. In 1962, it joined forces with another family business, Taylors of Harrogate, which specialises in buying and blending exceptional teas and coffees. Today, Bettys & Taylors of Harrogate is a vibrant and thriving family business with six Bettys Café Tea Rooms - all in Yorkshire - as well as a Craft Bakery, Cookery School and online shop.
What was the challenge?
As a business that procures teas and coffees from around the world, the teams at Bettys & Taylors of Harrogate travel often. There are currently 186 travellers who visit destinations throughout Europe, the United States, South America, Africa and Asia. Each business trip is different, varying in duration, destination and purpose. Bettys & Taylors needed a partner who could cater for their long-haul travel needs.
Some of the core requirements for the new travel management partner were to help Bettys & Taylors reduce ‘noise’ around travel management, assist with fulfilling their duty of care responsibilities and streamline processes. Along with several other travel firms, Corporate Traveller was invited to pitch for the contract and won.
As an established travel management company (TMC), Corporate Traveller was able to offer Bettys & Taylors an Expert Travel Consultant to handle every aspect of their travel needs. Edward Field, Assistant Manager at Corporate Traveller Leeds, has been Betty & Taylors’ Expert Travel Consultant since 2013. Not only does Ed facilitate all their long-haul travel, but he also manages their travel policy, ensuring they get the best value from their spend and that travellers and bookers follow procedures.
Due to the safety risks associated with some of their travel destinations, Bettys & Taylors also employs the services of World Aware, a third-party security company. Ed works in conjunction with World Aware to ensure that they know of all travel itineraries made for the team. This collaboration ensures that Bettys & Taylors fulfils its duty of care responsibilities to its travelling staff without requiring additional in-house resource.
Bettys & Taylors is a carbon neutral business and utilises carbon off-set reporting to monitor its impact and emissions when travelling with Corporate Traveller.
Due to his enduring relationship with Bettys & Taylors, Ed is intimately familiar with their travel preferences making the booking process hassle-free. He knows which airlines fall within Bettys & Taylors’ approved airline list ensuring all travel is booked accordingly. He also provides monthly reporting to Bettys & Taylors, outlining the travel spend and savings.
One of the advantages of working with Corporate Traveller is that Bettys & Taylors benefits from Corporate Traveller’s long- standing relationships with suppliers. As such, Ed is able to leverage these relationships to ensure they receive the best rates and fares whenever possible. Beyond the day-to-day travel management, Ed also manages a lot of Bettys & Taylors’ loyalty programmes allowing them to utilise points to book flights free of charge, further reducing the company’s overall travel spend.
Another benefit which Bettys & Taylors appreciates is access to a 24-hour emergency assistance team. There have been occasions when events such as terrorist attacks, natural disasters and political unrest have affected travellers in some destinations. In each instance, Corporate Traveller has been able to offer and arrange alternative travel options or bring travellers home early.
“When you get in touch with my Expert Travel Consultant, Ed, he responds within 15 mins. If he is not there, you immediately get an email saying someone else is dealing with his clients. It’s an excellent service.”
